Packet pick-up and late registration will be held at University Park Elementary School in the gymnasium. 

Friday,  the day before       2:00 - 8:00 PM
Saturday,  Race Day!        7:00 - 8:00 AM

You are allowed to pick up another runner’s packet if you know their full name and they have already signed the Race Waiver.


Wearing Your Runner Number  Pin your number to the FRONT of your shirt; it must be visible at all times.  

Water/Medical  Water will be available at the race start and finish, and at the 1/2 way point along the 5k course. Drink before the race and during the race at the water stands. Medical aid will be available at the finish line. Radio operators as well as course marshals can summon medical or other help if needed. If you feel dizzy, ill, chilled, or if you stop sweating, STOP IMMEDIATELY and SEEK ASSISTANCE. These symptoms can indicate a life threatening condition.

Other Safety  No strollers of any type, skates, dogs, bikes, headsets or unregistered runners are permitted on the course. No exceptions.

Crossing the Finish Line  KEEP MOVING, to make sure you do not interfere with the finish for other runners.

Post-Race Party  Complimentary food and refreshments will be available after the race. There will be an awards ceremony for three best times among men and among women, and the best time in each age group.    

Results/Times  Complete race results will be posted at the post-race party and on this website as soon as possible.

Megan Tarvin (UPES PTA) is the 2019 Couch-to-Classic Trainer! She will be offering training on a regular schedule (tentative, see below) using a great app for coaching: 5K Runner. It uses a mixture of walking and jogging to get you ready for the 5K distance in just 8 weeks.

Tentative 2019 Couch-to-Classic Training Run Schedule will include:

  • One early-morning weekday run
  • One evening weekday run
  • One weekend (Sundays) run

Find a wonderful community of runners, run or walk whatever distance feels right to you on this out and back, trail only course. Saturday mornings at 9am.

PG County Running Club
Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm at Kehoe Track on the UMCP campus or Thursday evenings at 6:30pm at Herbert Wells Ice Rink (with bathrooms, etc).

University Park Neighbor-led runs are available by contacting these regular runners:

Andrea Zukowski (9:30 to 10:00 min/mile pace) usually runs at 7am on Mon, Wed and Fri. mornings for a 5 – 7 mile run. You can also meet her at Lake Artemesia for a shorter run around the lake. Contact directly at zukowski@umd.edu.
